Garwood Elementary School is a small, rural campus located southwest of Houston, Texas within Rice Consolidated Independent School District in Colorado County. This kindergarten through fifth grade campus provides an academic setting with high expectations, while focusing on the individual student's emotional, physical, cultural, and academic needs. Because the elementary years are critical times of development for students, the staff at Garwood Elementary creates personal relationships with students while collaborating with parents. There is an atmosphere of mutual respect and caring among the staff and students as expectations and challenges are delivered and achieved. By showing students that they are respected and cared for, Garwood Elementary is able to produce exemplary, well mannered, successful citizens for our society.

Garwood Elementary strives to provide instruction to a diverse group of learners. The staff serves English language learners, gifted and talented students, economically disadvantaged students, and students who have a high rate of mobility. The implementation of Response To Intervention and The Fundamental Five have contributed to Garwood Elementary's success. These programs focus on individualized learning and high quality instruction. Staff members combine small group instruction, critical writing, technology use, and motivational teaching techniques to ensure that each student has the opportunity to learn and be successful. The combination of these programs and the positive relationships, developed between the students, parents, staff, and community, have created an environment where learning flourishes and students achieve beyond expectations.
