Sequoyah Elementary School established in Knoxville, TN, in 1929.

Sequoyah Elementary School is nestled in the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood of Knoxville, Tennessee. The school is now celebrating its 90th anniversary. Throughout our school's history, school staff, parents, and community members have worked together to support the development and commitment to the school's mission. We are committed to strengthening our instructional strategies and learning opportunities for our students.

Most recently, this includes the commitment to teacher collaboration and pedagogical growth through the Teaching Peer Excellence Group strategy. This unique professional development strategy encourages teachers to collaboratively develop lessons and student assessments. These are refined over time following implementation. Through the support of the Sequoyah Elementary Foundation and the Parent Teacher Organization, the school has gained additional instructional positions to better personalize and enrich the academic programming. Additional enrichment opportunities are provided to our students through the creation of a MakerSpace and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) class, which collaborates with the literacy lessons offered in our library and general education classes.

While we are proud of the history of outstanding academic excellence, as documented in our end-of-year testing scores, the true success we value is in the opportunity and challenge to create successful students who will enjoy purposeful careers, a meaningful life, and a commitment to loving their community.
