The Corsica-Stickney Elementary School is a small, rural K-6 school located in Stickney in southeastern South Dakota. We are a small school where parents, students, and the community are treated like family. Schoolwide Title I services, technology interventions, strong teaching practices, and positive parental support contribute to the high performance of the students and the school. We are fortunate to offer students in grades 3-6 one-to-one technology devices. We also offer computer science classes to all grades K-6. Through our updated Promethean boards in each classroom, teachers utilize curriculum with strong technology and engagement components. Through our Title I program, we are able to do more small group instruction as well as individual instruction. We focus on data and teacher observation to determine student needs. Our school provides interventions across multiple grade levels to ensure all students are getting the help they need.
The Corsica-Stickney School also serves as a hub for the community. Local agencies, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion Auxiliary, the Stickney Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, utilize our building for trainings, safety shelter, and programs. For example, our students participate on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day with these organizations. During the school year, these groups also make educational presentations to our students. The school is proud to be partners with these organizations.
