St. Katharine Drexel School, part of the Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools, is the newest Catholic elementary school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Since opening its doors in the fall of 2008, all facets of school life have continued to accelerate: academic offerings, faith development, parent/community involvement and student opportunities.
The strength of our academic programs is our ability to meet the needs of all learners. We have rigorous expectations for instruction with a curriculum that addresses faith development along with traditional academics. Our students receive instruction in the areas of religion, language arts, math, science, and social studies. In addition to these main content areas, students receive instruction in physical education, visual arts, vocal music, instrumental music, and technology.
St. Katharine Drexel School is a cooperative venture that is embraced by school families, our local parish, and the Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools. This spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance has been instrumental in building a successful school. School staff members, parents, and parish members are fully committed to the goal of forming children in an environment of academic excellence and gospel values. A basic aspect of our mission is the belief that children are a gift from God, formed in God's own image. It is our responsibility to guide their development so that they become good citizens of society and engaged in bringing about God's Kingdom on earth.
At St. Katharine Drexel School, school staff members and parents routinely communicate and collaborate to build relationships with students and to foster the growth of the whole child-mind, body, and spirit. Through authentic relationships among all parties, students are being educated for success today and well into the future.
