Sunset Valley Elementary is a K-4 school serving approximately 500 students located east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our teachers provide accommodations and modifications that grant all students with opportunities to master a rigorous curriculum. Teachers incorporate high-level questioning, formative assessments, and student engagement strategies to accelerate the growth of all learners. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is a focus of instruction at Sunset Valley. Students ask questions and develop solutions to real life problems during project and inquiry based lessons produced in the science lab and innovative outdoor classroom. Participation in STEM Career Days, STEM Olympics, and Family STEM Night promotes our community members and families to build strong relationships.
The Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTII) framework provides academic and behavior interventions to all learners, at wide-ranging levels of intensity. Our goal is to ensure all children are given high expectations and provided with sound instruction and learning opportunities to accelerate their rate of learning. The core belief of Sunset Valley staff is that all students can learn and be successful! Our school atmosphere transcends beyond academics to provide a well-rounded educational experience. A constructive school culture is achieved through our Positive School-Wide Behavior Program where Responsibility, Respect, and Safety are promoted. To further support the school culture, our "Noble Knight" character education program recognizes students and staff for exemplifying essential character traits that include: responsibility, respect, fairness, courage, caring, perseverance, and honesty. These foundational traits enable Sunset Valley students to flourish as productive and responsible citizens.
