When students walk through Bluffsview's doors, they immediately feel a sense of belonging. They know they are in a safe place where they are cared for and valued. While there are many reasons for Bluffsview's success, the foundation for all of our work is based upon the strong relationships we have with our students, families, and each other.
The staff at Bluffsview Elementary School share a common belief in the importance of immersing our students in a caring community with high expectations for all learners. Bluffsview's student population is rich with cultural and socioeconomic diversity. Our students' learning needs are broad, and their growth and achievement are both strong. As a staff, we have a strong collective efficacy. We truly believe that our unified efforts for all children can, and do, impact student achievement and social-emotional growth.
As part of our focus on relationship-building, we incorporate the Responsive Classroom approach in our daily practice of teaching and learning. The power of morning meetings can be seen and heard in all classrooms. Students begin their day sitting together in an inclusive circle, greeting each other by name, listening, laughing, and engaging with their peers while learning the value of relationships. Through these experiences, students develop an understanding of their unique role within their classroom community. These skills carry over into our broader school community, and eventually as our students head out into the world. By keeping relationships at the forefront of our practices, we are empowering a community of learners who will change the world!
