Norwayne Middle School - Creston, OH
Norwayne Middle School 8th grade STEM class
Norwayne Middle School is a rural school with an enrollment of 330 students in grades 6-8. The school district encompasses three small communities nestled in Wayne county's farm country. Despite the distances between communities, families know and support others throughout the district. Our staff reflects the close knit communities that surround the school. Each person, teacher, support staff or student, is seen as an individual with valuable qualities. Recognizing these qualities and focusing on developing the best in each individual provides the basis for academic growth and success for all our students.
The focus on the individual is reflected in all aspects of school life. Students are scheduled for their classes by hand, assuring the best placement for academic success. Differentiation is addressed for all students, recognizing their unique strengths as well as their needs. Intervention strategies are implemented as needed, but the core of intervention success is the establishment of a teacher-mentor who is tasked with helping students navigate school life and to develop the skills necessary to be independently successful. STEM classes to expand core curriculum connect students to their future and provide experience with technology and a hands-on approach to thinking and problem solving that reinforces academic objectives.
The administration at Norwayne models the value of the individual by supporting teachers in interpreting curriculum and in pursuing instructional strategies in ways that best meet the needs of their students. By focusing on the individual, teachers may choose a variety of instructional strategies ensuring each student's academic success.
