Our Students Doing What They Do Best- Learning!

Academic Leadership Charter School (ALCS) is located in the South Bronx, an area of academically low-performing students with few educational options, high poverty, and a high number of immigrants and English language learners. Ninety-four percent of our students quality for free and/or reduced lunch. Our educational program is specifically developed to meet the needs of this student population, as we believe all children, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background, can achieve academically. Academic Leadership Charter School is committed to a rigorous curriculum for all students within a caring and supportive learning environment. We promote the development of critical thinking, perseverance, ethics, character, and leadership.

Our main goal and focus is to provide our students with a quality educational program, that helps them develop and demonstrate college and career readiness by meeting or exceeding New York State Common Core Standards through a strong baccalaureate program, that focuses on English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science daily. We strive to create a caring environment where our students feel they can confide in us with their feelings and concerns and know that we will respect their privacy. By addressing their socio-emotional needs, we nurture our students in a safe environment. ALCS is also very conscious to give special attention to our diverse student populations and celebrate their ethnic diversity and ability levels. All our populations, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners, show steady gains each year and often outperform their peers. Academic Leadership embraces all of our students, celebrating their thinking styles, and helping them realize that learning is a natural and enjoyable process. This coupled with a rich instructional program, helps our students become scholars who are well versed in humanities and science. Our students learn to think about life and their world while learning the disciplines necessary to become well-rounded adults.
