Washington Elementary School - Westfield, NJ
Happy students make for happy learners!
Our motto at Washington Elementary School in Westfield, New Jersey, is "A Great Place to Grow" and it shows. Our students learn to read, write, reason, and solve problems, viewing challenges as opportunities to learn. In 2019, ninety-seven percent of Washington's fourth-graders met or exceeded expectations on the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and for Mathematics.
Our dedicated teachers focus on the whole child, driving academic growth while tending to their students' social and emotional needs as well. Instructional strategies, such as focusing on positive behavior, encouraging a growth mindset, and making modifications for students who need them, make children feel cared for and safe.
We make good use of technology to further student learning. Each classroom is outfitted with a laptop cart, a Smartboard, high-resolution projector, laser printer, a TV, and a sound field amplification system. A Makerspace offers coding, robotics, engineering activities, and other student-driven, problem-solving STEM learning.
Our families are dedicated to the success of Washington School. Whether welcoming future first graders to our traditional June Beach Party, delighting parents, grandparents, and other family members at a Valentine's Day Singalong, or partnering with the PTO to provide meaningful enrichment opportunities, our school community is strong. We are committed to creating lifelong learners who will grow to greet life's challenges with a smile and an "I can" attitude.
