National Blue Ribbon Schools Program

The Infinity Institute, a secondary citywide school of choice within the Jersey City Public Schools, concentrates on academics in a personalized, challenging environment. Infinity Institute opened in September 2010 for grades seven through nine, but has grown into an innovative, interdisciplinary secondary school serving grades six through twelve. The school offers an accelerated college-preparatory program for qualified Jersey City secondary students in a personalized, challenging environment. All courses offered at the high school level are honors courses or Advanced Placement courses.

In its efforts to prepare students for the school's AP program, Infinity Institute partnered with the Cambridge Assessment International Education of the University of Cambridge. The school became a Cambridge school to provide students in the middle school with rigorous language arts, science, and mathematics curricula.

Another critical initiative implemented at Infinity Institute to increase college and career readiness was the emphasis on writing and critical reading in all intellectual disciplines. Each month, in all content areas, students are expected to read fiction or nonfiction texts and write responses that require evidence from the text to address analytical questions. In the STEM classes, instructors place a higher emphasis on communicating ideas and answering high-level conceptual questions that test reading comprehension and the ability to solve problems and justify solutions.
