Celebrating Success and Academic Accomplishments at Bayou View Elementary School

Bayou View Elementary is a public school in Gulfport, MS, and serves a population of 681 students in grades K-5. Our curriculum is based upon the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. As an A-rated elementary school, our faculty is committed to rigor, relevance, and relationships. We accept all new students where they are academically, and take them where they need to be, and beyond. Our students receive instruction in all the standard academic disciplines, as well as the extra-curricular disciplines of art, music, library sciences, and physical education. Our K-5 students learn Mandarin Chinese in conjunction with their art classes. Many of our 4th and 5th grade students are enrolled in strings class, which feeds into our district's internationally-acclaimed secondary orchestra program. Our faculty diligently differentiates instruction to meet each student's academic, social and emotional needs, while teaching students the importance of maintaining grit and a positive mindset. This is the elementary school's second USDE National Blue Ribbon School recognition, as we received the award in 2007, which demonstrates our unwavering dedication to high standards for academics, as well as our commitment to continue our legacy of excellence. Bayou View Elementary truly embodies the mission and vision of the Gulfport School District.

Instructional leaders and faculty firmly believe in professional growth and collaboration with colleagues, and they are devoted to improving their instructional craft. Our data-driven decisions ensure that each student grows academically and is inspired to become a problem solver, a life-long learner, and a productive member of society.
