Inspiring ALL students to embrace learning in an ever-changing world.

Inspiring ALL students to embrace learning in an ever-changing world.

Hawthorn Elementary South School, located in Vernon Hills, Illinois, is a kindergarten through fifth grade building serving approximately 700 students. We celebrate the diversity of our students, who speak over 30 different languages and come together each day to learn and grow together. At Hawthorn, we truly believe that all children can learn at high levels. We provide masterful learning activities in which students explore and deeply engage with content in a joyful, exciting manner. We believe there is nothing more important than growing the whole child by combining robust academics with a full social emotional curriculum. It is our collective responsibility to connect with each and every child in a way that motivates and inspires our students to achieve academic and social emotional growth.

Each year, we embrace a different school-wide theme that helps bring our community together to build a positive climate and culture. This ensures all members of our community feel connected to our school and experience a safe, supportive environment. Themes such as peace, balance, growth mindset, metacognition, and many more inspire our students, staff and families each year. Our theme for 2019-2020, "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader" provides students with leadership opportunities, while also focusing on a love for reading. Hawthorn Elementary South is a true habitat of happiness!
