Delwood Elementary School is a small rural school on the eastern part of Iowa. Our building offers preschool through sixth grade with a resident district enrollment of 205 students. We provide a strong family-oriented atmosphere to meet the needs of our students. Delwood has been recognized by the State of Iowa as an Exceptional school based on the Iowa Performance Profile for 2018.
Our staff has prioritized literacy and math by making sure that these subject areas have at least 90-minute blocks set aside for instruction. Delwood prides itself on meeting the needs of all students and providing interventions to our students throughout the day. Our students and teachers have access to technology tools such as iPads, Smartboards, and Chromebooks. We have incorporated Defined STEM units into our curriculum and have been awarded 2 Iowa STEM Grants in the last 3 years. Students are expected to model ROCK Student behavior (Respect your school, Others deserve respect, Celebrate success, and Keep doing your best) in and out of school.
One program that has made a noticeable difference for our school has been the implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which has guided our building teams to collaborate and coordinate data, establish and implement goals and monitor students' progress on a continual basis.
