Torrey Pines Elementary School (TPES) is a school with a conscience. Students understand that the skills they acquire daily will help them positively impact the world tomorrow. Our long-standing commitment to critical literacy instruction ensures students read analytically, investigating text for bias and underlying messages. Students make meaning of both literature and expository text by connecting to their real-life experiences and emotions.
TPES students come to us with a breadth of cultures from around the world! Located next to the University of California San Diego, our community is blessed with an international student body encompassing over thirty different languages. Faculty hold weekly data-driven Professional Learning Communities, and a strong Instructional Leadership Team plans Professional Development to improve instructional effectiveness. Teachers design differentiated lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs, students learning English, and students exceeding grade level standards.
We expect children and adults alike to always be respectful, responsible, and kind. Instruction in the Zones of Regulation propels social-emotional wellness. Our 4-U Diversity Club and No Place for Hate program provide ample opportunities for students to practice tolerance, inclusivity, and empathy. The Torrey Pines Education Foundation provides dance, theater, instrumental and choral music, coding, Spanish, art, world arts, physical education, school counseling, and gardening specialty instruction to each child. Partnership with the La Jolla YMCA provides children on and off-campus experiences in gymnastics, swimming, golf, and other sports.
We are a school committed to continuous learning so we can give back to others.
