Dishman Elementary School - Combes, TX

Dishman Elementary School, located in Combes, Texas, is one of seventeen elementary schools in the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. Dishman serves 336 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in addition to a life skills unit serving children with special needs in grades first through fifth. The racial-ethnic composition is 96% Hispanic and 93% economically disadvantaged.

At Dishman, we firmly believe that, regardless of demographics, personal background and or socioeconomic status, children can rise to meet our expectations, but those expectations have to be clearly outlined and understood. "Educating Future Leaders," is Dishman's motto and as a team, Dishman has established a strong and positive campus culture that is focused on student success and achieving excellence. Dishman has clearly outlined campus goals, devised strategic plans of action and incorporated data analysis with students and teachers.

Dishman transformed from an underperforming campus to one that is now ranked first, among the seventeen elementary schools in HCISD. Dishman's success is due to the hard work and effort of students, teachers, staff, and our community. Accolades include being recognized as a Texas Honor Roll School both in 2016-2017 and in 2017-2018. In 2017 and 2018, Dishman's accountability rating was "Met Standard," and earned six out of six possible Distinction Designations. Distinctions earned were Academic Achievement in ELA/Reading, Mathematics, Science, Top 25% Student Progress, Top 25% Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness. Dishman will continue on the path of excellence working as a team and adhering to our motivational slogan, "Make It Happen."
