Mercedes Early College Academy - Mercedes, TX
MECA students know that preparation is the key to success.
Located in deep South Texas near the Rio Grande River is the city of Mercedes, Texas, better known as "The Queen City of the Valley." In 2008, Mercedes Independent School District opened Mercedes Early College Academy (MECA) in partnership with South Texas College (STC) in order to provide and offer a rigorous curriculum and opportunities for students to graduate with an associate's degree while still in high school. MECA is a small school environment with about 450 students, and therefore, students are able to build strong, lasting relationships with their peers, teachers and administrators. Our staff at MECA is committed to student achievement. Through continuous student tracking and family commitment, our teachers are able to expand students' understanding of themselves and help them to become productive, empathetic, and ethical citizens who can thrive in an ever-changing global society.
A high-quality education is no longer the province of the few or the rich, but the right of every child in every community. Mercedes ISD has driven the push, and in pursuit of our mission, MECA will be a leader in educational innovations to provide underrepresented students direct access to post-secondary, while developing their minds and character through rigorous curricula and programs that successfully prepare them for future academic, career, and life endeavors.
MECA is growing and succeeding academically, emotionally, intellectually, strategically, and ethically. Mercedes Early College Academy is committed to educating all children well and for all graduates to be college and career ready and globally competitive.
