Nestled in the center of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC), Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DeBakeyHSHP) is completing 46 years of academic excellence. Successful in attracting young people to the health professions at an earlier point in their educational careers, DeBakeyHSHP stands out as an outstanding program that drives students beyond their secondary learning experiences prepared for upper educational institutions and unlimited career opportunities.

DeBakeyHSHP provides a rigorous academic program and health experiences that prepares students to go forth with confidence. Through our academic structure and partnerships within TMC, students have been accessing relevant real world experiences related to the medical professions. DeBakeyHSHP has a new state of the art facility, along with 1 to 1 laptop access, which allows students to have access to medical professionals and institutions through visits and remotely. College Board data indicates DeBakeyHSHP students consistently perform at a level on their PSAT, SAT and Advanced Placement exams that indicates they are college and career ready.

Along with a rigorous academic program, the safe learning environment is an attribute that attracts students, parents, and staff to DeBakeyHSHP. As a Title 1 School, DeBakeyHSHP boasts an environment that is ethnically, culturally, and religiously diverse. Students and staff interact freely sharing different perspectives and experiences with no regards to background differences.

DeBakeyHSHP has an outstanding record of academic achievement and student growth. As the first medical high school established, DeBakeyHSHP has served as a model for other similar academic programs.
