A.W. Jackson Elementary School - Rosenberg, TX

A.W. Jackson Elementary is located within Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in Rosenberg, Texas. During the 1920s, Jackson was a segregated black high school serving economically disadvantaged students. In 1997, it became an elementary school. Today, Jackson continues to serve mostly economically challenged families. "Every Child, Every Day, Whatever it Takes," is our educational philosophy and motto. Our "Dream" is to close the achievement gap, and provide a strong academic foundation to our students by taking care of their daily emotional, physical, social, cultural, and academic needs.

Building trusting relationships and character is essential at Jackson. Every student is greeted with a smile at the front door of the school and classroom. Instructional practices and structures such as unwrapping the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, deep practice, Professional Learning Communities, vertical teams, grade-level planning, common formative assessments, interventions, data analysis, and continuous monitoring have been the pillars for our students' academic growth.

In 2016, Jackson's community was devastated by the Memorial Day Floods and then again in 2017, Hurricane Harvey. Floodwaters pummeled much of the community, causing many to lose their homes and belongings for two consecutive years. Despite these catastrophes, Jackson staff focused their hearts, minds, and efforts assisting students and families affected by these devastations. Through seemingly impossible odds, Jackson's students and staff rose to the occasion—not once, but twice, meeting state standards and earning distinctions among comparison groups. We are extremely proud of all accomplishments our Jackson Jets family has reached! Our dream has become reality!
