Discovery School - Murfreesboro, TN

Discovery School is a kindergarten through sixth grade school for gifted and high achievers. The School is in an established neighborhood in an older part of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, about 30 miles from Nashville and the geographic center of Tennessee. The phrase "a rising tide lifts all ships" was instrumental as the framework for building a challenging, rigorous program.

Discovery School vision is one that is centered on student-interest based as well as problem-based learning. It is an environment that encompasses the engineering design and embeds critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, and creativity into daily lessons. Students are challenged to reach their academic and personal potential by being encouraged to take risks, to persevere by staying in the struggle, and to take ownership of one's learning and contribution to the world around them. Our students consistently score among the highest in the state in every subject. They regularly win awards at the state and national levels in writing competitions, DAR competitions in all categories, LEGO Robotics, BEST Robotics, Jr. BETA, Science Olympiad, reading contests, and spelling bees. In addition, through the implementation of Professional Learning Communities, we have strong growth across the board as well, reflected in our value added scores.

Discovery School is a place of growth, both academically and personally. Adults and children share a growth-mindset. They make mistakes and learn from them; they take risks, face challenges, both personal and academic, and reflect on the growth that is obtained from all of those experiences and opportunities.
