A Year at the Beech

A Year at the "Beech"

Nestled on a scenic highway dotted with historic landmarks, Beech Hill Elementary was established in 1992. On the surface, Beech Hill's story is the typical narrative that resembles many schools. A closer examination of our home reveals a timeless tale illustrating the power of resiliency and one school's quest in developing a child-centered learning mecca.

Beech Hill, a Palmetto's Finest School, has received many accolades. Academic excellence through single-gender approaches defined our school for many years. As our population mushroomed, demands for a diverse portfolio of professional practices grew. We foster opportunities for students to use meta-cognitive skills. Applications in Thinking Maps, Acting Right and personalization provide tools for critical thinking and motivation. Our agenda evolved to include strategies that embrace our mission of lifelong learning. These are accomplished through the Lighthouses of Lifelong Learning: Create, Dream, Think, Connect, Nurture, and Live. These domains enable Beacons to explore various career options, interests, and passions.

Beacons navigate a sea of rigorous experiences that address academic, social, and emotional needs. The Growth Mindset methodology serves as our directional compass. Beacons have transformed their attention, vocabulary, and expectations to view fears and failures as opportunities, and consider challenges as chances to advance beyond perceived possibilities. This mindset serves as a catalyst for STEM, personalized learning, soft skills, active-learning, and mindfulness initiatives. They serve as foundational pillars in ensuring that the whole child is fostered, enriched, and empowered. Beech Hills learning community works to develop confident, self-motivated leaders who stand ready to change the world.
