Maplewood Elementary School - Cortland, OH

Maplewood Elementary School is a rural K-6 building located in Trumbull County in northeast Ohio. Maplewood Local School District has a long history of academically high performing schools. In 2011, Maplewood Elementary School was honored as a National Blue Ribbon School and in 2015 Maplewood Middle School was also awarded the same honor. Last year the elementary school was also recognized as a National Title I Distinguished School as was the middle school in 2011. We maintain a culture of high expectations and strive to meet the needs of our students through continuous improvement in a supportive academic environment.

Even through difficult economic times, a profound loyalty to the district permeates the community as evidenced by the sustained residency of multiple generations of Maplewood alumni. The commitment of the school community is evident every day of the school year. Without this involvement, we would not be successful in maintaining student achievement. There is a large sense of pride in this small community. The school benefits from a close working relationship with local churches. They assist with after school programming, back packs, and school supplies.

The Maplewood Board of Education, superintendent, principal, teachers, and support staff believe in each and every student's ability to learn to their highest potential. As such, all individuals do everything in their roll to support and promote all students in their educational journey. The staff at Maplewood Elementary is an experienced group of educators that set high expectations for all learners. The Ohio Learning Standards are the backbone of instruction. The key qualities that bring these expectations to fruition are the dedication and passion that the teachers bring to the classroom. The students are motivated to learn and are provided with differentiated instruction allowing them to reach their maximum potential.
