Hazel Harvey Elementary has been the heart and foundation of the rural and small Chippewa Local Schools community since 1956. Our school offers a first-class education to students in grades K-4, while upholding a sense of tradition and "Chipp Pride" year after year. Students are encouraged daily to be model citizens, prioritizing treating others with kindness and respect. By utilizing best teaching practices and committing to excellence, our students have high levels of engagement and continue to grow. The strong academic performance by our students is a direct reflection of our rigorous programming.
In finding ways to continue to improve student outcomes, Hazel Harvey Elementary went through a transition where emphasis was placed on educating the entire child. This allowed students to master material at their own pace, while embracing a growth mindset and appreciating the power of "yet." Students are now pre-assessed, post assessed, and provided intervention to ensure each is learning to his/her full potential. This process required collaboration between teachers, tutors, and parents. Students are pushed to take ownership for their learning by communicating successes and trouble areas to teachers and parents. Throughout the transition in our instructional model, teachers created all curricula and assessments to align with state standards, maximize 21st century learning, and make connections within the content to real life.
We often hear that it takes a village to raise a child. At Hazel Harvey, we embrace this sentiment, and appreciate the partnerships that we have fostered with our community and its members. These community partnerships exemplify the importance of, and the commitment to, maintaining positive and supportive interactions with one another through the learning process.
