Akron-Fairgrove Elementary School

Akron-Fairgrove Elementary School is a small rural school in the thumb of Michigan. Our building houses preschool through fifth grade with an enrollment of 175. We provide a strong family-oriented atmosphere to meet the needs of our students. We are the "talk of the county" by being the only school in the county that has implemented a successful balanced calendar. We were named a Reward School by the Michigan Department of Education after beating the odds and overcoming traditional barriers of student achievement as well as outperforming schools with similar risk factors and demographic makeup as well as being recognized by the Mackinaw Policy Center as a top-ten conventional school in Michigan.

Our staff has prioritized literacy and math by making sure that these subject areas have 90-minute blocks set aside for instruction. Akron-Fairgrove prides itself on meeting the needs of all students by differentiating instruction and lessons for our students as well as, providing interventions for our students through Power Hours. Our students and teachers have access to technology tools such as iPads, computer labs, projectors, and Chromebooks. Students are expected to model STAR Student behavior (Show Safe Behavior, Take Responsibility, Always Show Respect, Reach for Goals) in and out of school.

One program that has made a noticeable difference for our school has been the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and the MI Excel Blueprint which has guided our building teams to collaborate and coordinate data to establish goals, implement goals, and monitor progress on a continual basis. For the years students are in our building, our goal is to ensure that our students are provided the education and learning environment that meets their needs academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
