YES students celebrate core values at monthly school-wide community meetings.

YES students celebrate core values at monthly school-wide community meetings.

The Yarmouth school vision statement lives and breathes in all aspects of school life at the 350 student, grades two through four at Yarmouth Elementary School. The academic program empowers students to grow as citizens, readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and innovators.

Teachers use classroom practices that cultivate a growth mindset, foster student voice, and choice, differentiate, and hold students to clear and rigorous learning outcomes. Teachers have studied and implemented the workshop model of instruction, leading to marked improvements in student reading, writing, and math. Science instruction facilitates innovative learning opportunities that are inquiry-based and hands on. The school 1:1 iPad technology program further supports all learners in greater engagement, effectiveness, and empowerment.

A positive school culture based on relationship building and student's voice is built through school-wide Responsive Classroom practices. There is a daily focus on the school core values of respect, caring, citizenship and fairness. The school counselor provides weekly, proactive instruction to all students that help them grow in social/emotional skills and as problem solvers.

Students have rich and diverse learning opportunities; art, music (with the addition of chorus and band in grade 4), and library skills are part of every child's learning, every year. The RTI (Response to Intervention) process monitors all students to support their individualized needs. Yarmouth Elementary School has high attendance and academic performance rates in great part due to these systems and as a result of the positive relationships that exist within the entire community.
