Waterloo Elementary Welcomes Students for Another Day of Engaged Learning!
Waterloo Elementary School (Howard County, Maryland) – Waterloo Elementary School has proudly served our community for 54 years. Waterloo is a comprehensive pre-k – 5 school with an enrollment of 638 students. Additionally, Waterloo Elementary houses an integrated regional program aimed to provide support and instruction for elementary aged students in Howard County with emotional disabilities. Waterloo also provides many opportunities for students to be exposed to new experiences and thrive outside the classroom. In the past three years, student teams from Waterloo have earned Top 3 honors in the Rube Goldberg and Safe Racer Engineering Challenges, students have been chosen to participate in the HCPSS Band & Strings Honors and GT groups, and students have participated in the Girls on the Run/Let Me Run programs aimed at preparing the mind and body to compete in a 5K race.
Waterloo is a certified Green School where, in partnership with local government agencies, students were able to assist with reforestation efforts by planting 122 trees along the perimeter of the school ground. In the spirit of conservation, students have created, landscaped, and maintained a rain garden. Waterloo recognizes student success in multiple ways, whether it be with honor roll pins for academic achievement or with poster-sized professional framed photos of individual students displayed throughout the hallways recognizing their responsibility, respect, compassion, and effort. Waterloo teachers and staff are engaged in dedicated professional development and collaborative planning so that they may best meet the diverse academic and emotional needs demonstrated by our students. Our teachers continuously demonstrate care, professionalism, and support toward one another, and their students. The Waterloo PTA is an active and valued partner as we strive to enrich the educational experience for all students. Waterloo also has forged an ongoing partnership with Towson University as a Professional Development School.
