Students greet teachers with coffee and munchkins!

Students greet teachers with coffee and munchkins!

Abington High School fosters a culture of shared leadership and shared responsibility for the achievement and well-being of all students. This is possible because the instructional staff and support staff are very strong and highly skilled. There is a fearless climate that supports continuous improvement and growth with particular attention paid to supporting at-risk students as well as potentially disenfranchised subgroups. We believe that a positive high school experience includes the extension of programming beyond the traditional school day and course schedule.  The community is very supportive of programs, activities, clubs and athletics that provide substantial opportunities for students to flourish outside of the classroom.

We saw significant improvement in student achievement and instructional delivery after the addition of 20 hours of common planning time each year.  This is scheduled before school twice per month and provides all teachers and support staff time to share lessons and student work, discuss teaching strategies, and develop curriculum.
