Meridian School is one of four schools in Aptakisic-Tripp CCSD #102 located in Lake County, Illinois. Built in 1994, Meridian School serves 643 students in early childhood, fourth and fifth grades. The Meridian School community is rich in linguistic and cultural diversity with over 70% of households reporting at least one of over fifty languages (other than English) spoken. To support and celebrate its diversity, Meridian School provides an innovative and growing Bilingual/English Learner program that welcomes families new to D102 and, in many cases, the United States. Meridian School is the place where students from our two k-3 elementary schools unite to forge new relationships and embark on learning journeys that will engage and challenge them to excel in all areas.
All students at Meridian School are provided access to individual iPads and digital resources. They participate in daily physical education, encore rotations in art, music, Project Lead the Way, and Communications, and have the option to participate in band, orchestra, and/or chorus. Meridian school places a strong emphasis on teaming and the relationships that students form with each other and with the staff. Many of the classrooms allow for teachers to 'open the wall' and have students work cooperatively. Additionally, the annual Team Day allows students to engage in trust building games and engaging team building activities. New in the 2018-2019 school year, Meridian School now houses a comprehensive early childhood program that provides rich learning experiences for the youngest of our D102 learners.
