Third grade students participate in guided math instruction.

Butterfield Elementary is a school that greatly benefits from a highly diverse student population. With approximately 300 students, we have a wide variety of needs that are met passionately and sensitively by our staff each day. Butterfield currently has a 36% low-income rate, one of the highest mobility rates in Lombard District 44, 17% English learners and 18% students with disabilities. While we most certainly celebrate our diversity, we recognize these factors require varied strategies and approaches to ensure ongoing growth.

Students receive high quality instruction in the classroom where teachers incorporate a variety of instructional strategies and provide differentiated, small group instruction. Curriculum resources are aligned to the Common Core State Standards which are enhanced through grade level collaboration.

Our dedicated intervention block is a time when we provide small group instruction in the area of reading with support from our Title I teachers, reading specialists, EL teachers and special education staff. Students are grouped by need, and we are able to offer targeted support and enrichment to promote student growth and achievement. Ongoing collaboration between the intervention team and classroom teachers allows this format to be very fluid, thus allowing us to make timely decisions to best meet the needs of our students.

Consistent and ongoing collaboration between classroom teachers and support staff contributes to the success of our students. This, combined with our supportive and engaged families, provides all students with the the opportunity to become their personal best in and out of school.
