PBES Sandpipers learn about sea turtles

Located on the Emerald Coast in Northwest Florida, Pensacola Beach Elementary School (PBES) was founded in 1979. Families who lived on the beach approached the Superintendent of the Escambia County School District to establish an elementary school for the beach children.

The first beach school was located in the home of long-time beach resident, Mr. Harry Gowens as well as the Pensacola Beach Fire Department. As time passed, what became known as the "beach school" was built on its current site. In 2002, the district made the decision to close some Escambia County schools. The parents united together to save the beach school. Later that same year PBES became a charter school.

PBES was not spared the destructive forces of 2004's Hurricane Ivan. More than half of the school was completed destroyed. The Pensacola Beach community united once again and the beach school was rebuilt. Since then, PBES has thrived and grown stronger with each passing year. High standards are set for our children. Each day our dedicated staff and classroom volunteers work hard to push our students to higher levels of achievement.

PBES is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting primarily of present and former parents. Additional support comes from the Pensacola Beach community through our "Partners in Education" fundraising program as well our very active PTA. Both organizations support the children and the staff at OUR school.

To live here, to teach here, to be a student here; Pensacola Beach Elementary is truly an experience of a life-time.
