Engaged in joyful learning

Swigert International School is an International Baccalaureate School located in Denver Colorado, serving 547 ECE through 5th grade students. The IB philosophy is conceptual and inquiry-driven, which allows students to dive deep into units of study around relevant issues; including communities around the world, animal migration, immigration, and conflict, just to name a few.

Swigert students spend the entire day engaging in transdisciplinary units of study, in an environment where curiosity and risk-taking is encouraged. Swigert students spend the entire day inquiring, reading, writing, and speaking about authentic topics. We are a community of learners and are striving to develop a sense of agency to think critically and take action in the world. For example, our first graders study change makers – from Martin Luther King to Mother Theresa, and then go out into the community and take action helping the homeless across the city. Last year, they organized a food drive and distributed over 2, 000 bags of food and supplies for the homeless. During their government unit, our fourth grade students researched statewide polices and created advocacy posters about their stance on these issues and shared them in the community. Every spring, we dedicate an entire day to giving back to the community. The students and staff spend the day volunteering at local nonprofit organizations. At Swigert, we are proud of our intentional work around student and staff agency.
