Summary

Our district mission statement is "Educating and inspiring students to achieve their personal best," and at West Chester East High School, we take this mission to heart. We strive to help each and every individual student realize his or her personal strengths and aspirations and develop a plan for accomplishing his/her goals. While getting to know our students and ensuring they feel supported and cared for, we continually remind them that high school is a gateway, not an end-point. We believe it's important that our students understand the diverse and changing world that is awaiting them upon graduation and that they are prepared to meet the challenges before them. At the core of our approach is the notion that good citizens make good communities. At East, we are a community, and like any community, we have our strengths and our weaknesses. We realize that and consider each and every student and staff member an integral part of our effort to be better tomorrow than we were the day before.

Our high school has an enrollment of approximately 1,300 students and more than 100 staff members. We offer a broad array of courses and opportunities. We have many courses from which students may select, all offered at varied levels of rigor and including 17 College Board AP courses. In addition to the 25 varsity sports, we offer ninth grade and junior varsity sports, a tremendous visual and performing arts program, more than 50 student clubs, and several service-oriented groups, such as Interact. These opportunities are geared toward meeting the sundry needs and interests of a diverse student population, the vast majority of which matriculates to college after high school.

East enjoys tremendous support from the school community. The school and families partner together in support of the students. Our parents and families show up in large numbers to Open House, fall drama, our winter concert series, Spring musical and athletic competitions throughout the year. Our Commencement each year is a celebration of our collective achievement and a highlight for the community. Part of our success hinges on this partnership.

Based on our test data each year, WC East typically ranks as one of the most competitive, highest-performing high schools in the Commonwealth. Our overall Keystone Exam data, PSAT, SAT, ACT and College Board AP data have consistently improved over the course of the past four years, while our graduation rate has increased from 91 percent in 2013 to 99 percent this past school year. Of particular note is that in 2017, we increased the number of students taking an AP test by more than 30 students from the previous year and the number of tests taken increased from 600 to 763 in the same time span. These data indicate that over the course of time, East students are prepared for and rising to the challenges presented.

WC East is worthy of a Blue Ribbon because we are a school that exists for and strives toward individual and collective student achievement. While we believe that we are a really good school, we don't believe that we are good enough - we can always get better. We take seriously our task as educators to constantly improve ourselves for the betterment of our student body, our community, and our future.
