NBRS Badge for Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School
Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School - Lewisburg, PA
There's always something good for kids happening at DHEMS!!
The Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School is named after the distri's former superintendent. Dr. Eichhorn was one of the pioneers in the development of the middle school model, a model of education that is deeply rooted at DHEMS. Serving 475 students in the small town of Lewisburg, PA, the Eichhorn Middle School has been recognized for excellence in the arts, academics and its schoolwide PBIS program. It's a commitment to the approach of educating the whole child and addressing the unique needs of adolescents that truly sets DHEMS apart.
The school's mantra is, "If it's best for kids, we do it." This is practiced daily, by offering all students a blend of rigorous academic offerings along with many opportunities for exploration and self-expression. Nearly all students leave DHEMS having successfully completed at least one high school level course, and more than half have successfully completed two or more, which speaks to the rigor of the academic offerings. In the arts, students have the opportunity to learn music, visual art, technology, foreign language, physical education and more. Well more than half of all students perform in chorus, band or orchestra ensembles. All students participate in a club or activity during the mid-day schedule. Additional extracurricular opportunities are in athletics, drama, music and academic competitions. All the while, caring adults are forging positive relationships with students, fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and excellence in a safe and welcoming environment.
Partnering with a supportive community, DHEMS plays a key role in the development of its students that helps prepare them individually for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
