Woodland Elementary School - Alexandria, MN

Woodland - Educating the Whole Child

Woodland - Educating the Whole Child

Situated on a 48-acre site, the design of Woodland Elementary provides an efficient and flexible learning environment. Numerous learning options engage students and provide teachers with settings that support what and how they teach. The outdoor classroom and nature trail offer educational experiences beyond classroom walls. Our Makerspace, Learning Labs, and Discovery Areas provide space for additional student growth opportunities within our building.

Woodland staff are committed to providing instruction by embracing a personalized and responsive approach to reach student needs. Teachers are highly trained in the balanced literacy framework. This style of teaching focuses on differentiating instruction to teach reading and writing according to individual student needs. Our math curriculum helps prepare students for real world math situations. Teams use data in reading, math, and behavior on a consistent basis to drive decisions on student interventions.

Classrooms are equipped with interactive boards and presentation systems. Woodland students have access to technology through a computer lab, iPads and a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks in grades 2-5.

In educating the whole child our school adheres to a code of conduct to establish a safe, comfortable learning environment. Students, staff, parents, and community members dedicate themselves to the following standards: Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Responsibility, and Fairness. Woodland staff are passionate and dedicated to a comprehensive learning experience that grows each student in their learning; as well as becoming a contributing, positive citizen in our school and community.
