A warm welcome from our St. Mary Catholic School students

St. Mary Catholic School (SMCS) is a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic school located in the city of Hagerstown in Western Maryland. For over 140 years, SMCS has been a parish school and the only Catholic elementary/middle school in Washington County.

SMCS embodies its mission, empowering children in their faith journey and promoting academic excellence and life-long service inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a nurturing community, in all programs and expectations. The pastor, principal, school board, faculty and staff, and Home & School Association share responsibility in upholding this mission. Faith, academics, service, family, traditions, and technology are hallmarks of SMCS. Prayer is an integral part of each day. The goal of academic excellence, supported by the collaborative effort of teachers, instills the love of learning and creates life-long learners. SMCS challenges students academically with a structured, well-rounded course of study and provides a technology-rich environment for students developing skills in collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving.

As a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school, a positive environment is maintained through the SMCS Keys for Success as expectations are clear. Meeting those expectations is affirmed and celebrated. Strong parent-teacher relationships are created and nurtured. Parents, recognized as primary educators, desire a faith-based education for their children and willingly give their time and talents to assist the faculty in their children's spiritual and educational journey. As a community, SMCS strives to educate children with faith in God and hope for the future.
