Our grand finale "The International Festival"!

Baton Rouge Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet (FLAIM) is notable as we are the only public immersion elementary school in the district. Students are immersed in their language of choice (French, Mandarin or Spanish) throughout the day. 100% of their Math, Science, and Social Studies instruction is in their immersion language. English Language Arts is the only subject with English instruction. Students are required to take state and district assessments in English. Our students maintain high academic performance scores and finish fifth grade bi-literate. FLAIM has been recognized by the state of Louisiana as a State Certified Immersion School. The prestigious LabelFrancEducation seal from the French government has been awarded to us.

Immersion requires students are immersed in the target language. To achieve biliteracy teachers employ immersion strategies as TPR (Total Physical Response), modeling, and coaching to ensure students understand the concepts being taught. We've learned that these strategies have been key to our success and could well be adapted to all schools.

The number of immersion classes has increased due to our success. We have grown from two immersion classes per grade to four and now to five per grade as the levels move up. We have outgrown our facility. With the active involvement of our tireless parents and administration, working with the district, a new location has been found for our expanding school.
We are proud of the program that FLAIM has become, and we are very proud of the community that the program has created.
