Wineteer Elementary School - Wichita, KS

Wineteer Elementary, part of Derby Public Schools USD 260, is located near McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS.

Known as the Thunderbirds, our school is proud to have been one of the first elementary schools in the nation to offer Project Lead The Way, a project-based curriculum that focuses on math, science and technology. We are Title 1 status school that provides tiered instruction to target student learning needs. Our school also receives Military Connected Academic and Support Program grant funding that has provided student achievement support, social/emotional curriculum, staff professional development, and increased technology. There is also an interactive computer learning program provided to students for reading at home and school to measure and monitor performance.

Wineteer works in close partnership with McConnell Air Force Base Leadership and their School Liaison Officer to address the needs of military-connected students. This partnership has provided many opportunities for program and service development that eases that impact of students in transition and supports students who are facing difficult challenges unique to military families.

Parents and volunteers create a special foundation for the school. A unique glimpse into Wineteer is our "loveable lunch" program. Through our active social media pages, we are also able to coordinate with deployed parents to participate in sending notes to their student.

Staff promote a culture of community, support, and resilience. There are opportunities to thrive outside of the classroom through school clubs including Running Club, Young Rembrandts, Lego League, and Mighty Military Kids. Learning continues beyond the school day with tutoring and a summer learning program called Jumpstart. Wineteer has spirit, creativity, and relationships for students to flourish!
