Maple Elementary School - Avon, IN

Maple Elementary is "Small, but Mighty!" With only 265 students in Kindergarten through 4th grade, it's the smallest school in Avon. Educating the Whole Child, and ensuring that students are Safe, Healthy, Supported, Engaged, and Challenged is the foundation for our work. A focus on positive behavior supports and celebrating the diversity of our ever-changing population creates a nurturing environment.

Our community partnerships support our students and these stakeholders visit us regularly, making us unique. Maple is a neighbor to the Outdoor Learning Center, which provides students with opportunities to engage in STEM and social studies experiences.

Engagement and high expectations are crucial components of student learning. Quality instruction is achieved through scaffolding, small flexible grouping, peer collaboration, integration of questioning strategies, and utilization of a common language. Our Instructional Coach and Title Teacher support staff with professional growth and a focus on data to remediate and challenge students. Through the integration of multimedia resources, the delivery of instruction has changed to engage students, build prior knowledge and connect to the real world. Weekly, our related arts team incorporates fitness, art, music, and media into a unique learning experience.

Families are engaged in our mission by supporting school goals, participating in Traveling Teachers neighborhood visits, and attending family learning nights. Student leadership opportunities include Student Council, Diversity Club, Yearbook, and Peer Mediators.

Our goal is to nurture, encourage, support, and believe in all of our students. Having this shared vision has allowed us to make student centered decisions.
