Barr-Reeve Elementary serves students in grades 2-5 in the small town of Montgomery located in southwestern Indiana. Traditionally, the Barr-Reeve community has been very supportive of our small school, and Barr-Reeve Viking pride runs deep. Various school events that include athletics, student presentations, and family activities are well attended by community members. Over the past 10 years, Barr-Reeve Elementary students have surpassed the percentage of students meeting the state standards on state assessments by an average of 11%. Barr-Reeve Elementary is an "A" school and has received Indiana's 4-Star School Award seven times. Three of these 4-Star awards have been earned during the past three years.
The key to success at Barr-Reeve Elementary begins with high expectations for students and staff. Support from staff, families, and community helps to create an environment where all students can learn and grow. Small class sizes, teachers who are willing to tutor during their breaks and after school, parents who help their children prepare at home, and communication between the school and families are some of the "secrets" to our success. Each grade level has identified priority and supporting standards that align with the Indiana Academic Standards. Student growth occurs as staff members use data to identify student needs and provide appropriate learning opportunities. These opportunities encourage students to capture their learning experiences through hands-on activities, thoughtful conversations and digital interactions. Throughout the learning process, 1:1 technology is used to support learning and prepare students for a world outside the classroom. Barr-Reeve Elementary is blessed with dedicated staff, engaged students, involved parents, and a devoted community.
