Whittier Elementary is a preschool through 5th grade elementary school in Indianola, Iowa. Whittier Elementary's mission statement is, "Learning and Success for all," while also embodying our district vision of "Proud Traditions...Unlimited Possibilities." Whittier Elementary hosts a preschool and Head Start program, serving approximately 450 preschool through fifth grade students each school year.

At Whittier Elementary we are a community of educators who are built on the foundations of collaborative teams that work together toward one common goal, student learning. We also have an on-going partnership with our families and community, working together to serve our students. At Whittier Elementary we believe that the climate and culture of our school is a key component to our success. Teachers and administration radiate energy, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset as we support our students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Whittier Elementary's certified and non-certified staff are professionals who are focused on perfecting their craft. We want to exceed expectations because students are the one's who benefit. We have many measures in place that ensure that our high levels of achievement continue for years to come. At Whittier we have a results-oriented culture, including developing S.M.A.R.T. goals, taking part in math and reading Data Days, and proudly embracing the Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture. Teachers provide students with rigorous learning experiences, which are structured around the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) framework. At Whittier our students engage in collaborative group work opportunities in all subject areas while also fostering 21st century skills, which are essential for success in today's classroom and tomorrow's world.
