Our mission at Olive B. Loss Elementary School is to inspire a community of learners to strive for excellence. Located in Bear, Delaware, Olive B. Loss School is home to approximately 600 students. Academic Excellence is achieved through collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity: empowering students to be successful in the global society.
Our school is at the forefront of implementing innovative, research-based strategies to ensure our students' success. We challenge our students to think and work beyond expectations, utilizing collaboration, inquiry-based learning, discourse, and community partnerships. Students' natural curiosities fuel a research process that culminates in deep understanding and yields a uniquely expressive representation of learning. We develop 21st century learners who understand that success requires taking risks and productive struggles. Our distinctive partnership with the University of Delaware engineering students encourages learners to practice a design process, requiring them to collaborate and problem solve.
Our school culture is rooted in community. Professional Learning Communities challenge our teachers to continuously analyze student data and develop plans to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Our Positive Behavior Support program fosters an atmosphere of respect, personal responsibility, and cooperation, where student accomplishments are recognized every day. Family involvement is key to the success of Olive B. Loss School. Volunteers and PTA representatives are visible in our school daily.
