Dennison Elementary is a K-6 Option school in Jefferson County, Colorado, established in 1974, with a mission to provide a rigorous academic education where fundamental learning skills are the foundation needed to build on for academic and life success. Students learn skills that provide success in learning and applying conceptual standards, critical thinking, civic responsibility, and effective communication. As the world and educational standards evolve, staff continues to look at the foundational mission of the school to determine how we hold to the fundamental learning skills and adapt to new standards that deepen both learning and application.

The instructional practices that support our achievement are based on a whole group instructional model that is supported by systemic curriculum resources and targeted interventions. This approach provides equitable access for all students to the grade level curriculum and standards. Teachers are committed to a systemic K-6 experience for our students. This provides a solid understanding of grade-level and school wide expectations for staff, students, and families. We build on a model of a three-legged stool that acknowledges it takes all three groups to have a successful learning community.

We continue to update technology as a tool to support learning, student engagement, and create relevancy. Most curriculum resources continue to add an online/technology component that keeps both teachers and students using the newest approaches to increase student engagement and achievement.

Our commitment to a systemic, systematic approach builds the foundation for students to be successful in their educational and career pursuits.
