Sunset Elementary School is a vibrant, multicultural community of engaged students, educators, and parents. Located in the metropolitan city of San Francisco, Sunset embraces a culturally, linguistically and economically diverse student population.
Strategic initiatives create a welcoming school climate. Sunset staff cultivate strong, trusting relationships as a foundation for academic achievements using the Caring School Communities program and Restorative Practices. Partnering with an energetic PTA and community-based organizations has led to more school wide events, increased resources, and beautiful gardens and murals. Parent and community volunteers are key to Sunset Elementary's success in nurturing and preparing our children.
Over the years, Sunset enhanced its programming and instruction. An emphasis on cohesive, supportive staff relationships boosts teachers' professional capacity and leadership. Substantial opportunities for professional development leads to academic growth. With a comprehensive and differentiated curriculum addressing individual needs, students are challenged in a variety of settings. Sunset's Gold Ribbon Award-winning technology program equips students to excel in STEAM projects. In the Learning Garden, hands-on activities and projects teach lessons in life sciences and sustainability. A robust Visual and Performing Arts program features dance, drama, visual arts, plus instrumental and choral music. Providing access and equity to all students ensures that social justice and academic growth are a reality at Sunset.
