Saraland Elementary School is characterized by a small town spirit with big goals for student success. It is a place with a shared vision--one town--one team--one dream--where the faculty, staff, and community are dedicated to students and committed to excellence. Beginning its 10th year in operation, the Saraland City School System is composed of four schools and was recently ranked as the second highest performing school system in the state of Alabama based on standardized test scores with consideration for poverty rate. Regardless of demographics, the ambition in Saraland remains consistent: expect more, achieve more! Collectively throughout the community from city to district officials, teachers and parents, the message is consistent: students are expected to do their best every day. Formative assessments are utilized to inform instruction and monitor student growth. To promote their ownership, students maintain personal data binders, recording their attendance and academic progress. Systematic data and instructional planning meetings are used to adjust instruction to best meet student needs. Incentives are provided to encourage students to achieve growth in all academic subjects and a variety of extra-curricular activities enrich academics. Saraland Elementary School has an archery team, running club, honor society, school choir, as well as Project Outreach, a club that connects students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers for the betterment of both groups. In Saraland, relationship-building is intentional and the people make the difference: Saraland Elementary School, a fun place to grow and learn together!
