Our mission is to ensure high levels of learning for elementary students, utilize effective evidence-based practice; mentor pre-service teachers; and conduct and disseminate educational research.

Edith Bowen Laboratory School is a Title I public charter school that sits on the campus of Utah State University. Our diverse population of students represent learners across the spectrum and require the knowledge of highly skilled teachers. Our teachers have completed an in-depth curriculum development process that provides each student with a guaranteed & viable curriculum. Additionally, each standard has been unpacked to determine essential skills, enduring understandings, and key questions. This knowledge has helped our teachers, of both classrooms and humanities, shape a curriculum that is conducive to learning and growth, while still addressing our mission to educate the whole child through integrated place-based and project-based education. Our students are able to apply their learning in real-life applications as they embark on field experiences rich with standards, learning, and cross-content connections. These experiences are possible because they are balanced by a comprehensive RtI program that is driven by assessment and utilizes explicit instruction to fill the gaps in students understanding.
The systematic change that had to occur to bring us to this place required faculty alignment on a common mission, and the mutual agreement on our school vision. The process of finding teachers willing to embark on the journey of school improvement required personnel adjustments, staff development, and personal paradigm shifts. The alignment of our team, the strong support of our community, and the highly skilled teachers serve as the driving force in our ability to impact children's lives as they learn, grow, and excel.
