NBRS Badge for Leon Heights Elementary School

Leon Heights Elementary School - Belton, TX

Leon Heights - 3rd Grade Science

Leon Heights - 3rd Grade Science

When Leon Heights Elementary School first opened its doors in 1956, the building was intended to serve as both a school and a place where the entire community could gather. While the community outgrew the school's cafeteria long ago, that sense of community engagement is still central to Leon Heights' identity. The school's principal has said that "there's not a stranger here," and it's true.

There are students whose parents and grandparents attended Leon Heights. There are also parents and grandparents who still regularly participate in activities at the school even though their kids graduated to middle school years ago. It's not unusual for neighbors (even those who never had kids at the school) to ask how they can help.

Like the broader community, staff members are dedicated to every child, every day. Once they're hired, staff members tend to stay at Leon Heights. That longevity helps build relationships that make communication easier and facilitate collaboration. Teachers don't hesitate to take on other roles when necessary.

The school not only embraces a growth mindset but also holds everyone - students, staff members and parents - mutually accountable for high expectations. Leon Heights' mission is to develop motivated learners, who will lead in tomorrow's world. Success in that mission is a community effort.
