The Road to Success Starts at Northwestern Elementary!

Northwestern Elementary School, part of the Northwestern School District, is located in Erie County, Pennsylvania. True to its name, we are located in the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania on the shores of Lake Erie. Our school serves around 400 students in grades K-5. In partnership with its parents, our school seeks to instill in its students, high standards for academic scholarship, integrity, leadership, and responsible citizenship. Over the years, Northwestern has overcome many obstacles including a tornado that devastated the community in 1985. Despite the fact that sixty percent of our students are classified as economically disadvantaged, our dedicated teaching staff has implemented strategies and techniques that motivate and inspire our students to succeed. One of our core principles revolves around a strong school wide positive behavior support program with the acronym, PAWS: Practice respect, Act responsibly, Work together, and Stay safe. Teachers and students utilize cutting edge technology as they continue to successfully transition to the Common Core standards. Students work hard throughout the year, especially during the summer through our Project SMART (Summer Math And Reading Team) initiative which rewards students for extra reading and math activities completed during the summer. We have received numerous Achievement Recognition Awards from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and most recently, we were designated as a Title I Reward School based on measured growth in the top 5% of all Pennsylvania schools. During our first year of competition in 2014-15, our school took first place at the Pennsylvania state STEM competition.
