Great Valley Middle School is focused on the whole child. To that end, programs and services within our middle school are designed to support the unique academic, emotional, and social needs of our students during the middle years of adolescent development. Our structure illustrates our commitment to the whole child by providing our middle school team with designated time to plan and collaborate in grade level, content, and special area teams as well as with administrators, counselors, social workers, and mental health specialists. This cooperation ensures pedagogically sound instruction as well as a wide array of supports to meet the needs of every student so they are able to thrive in all aspects of their development, and creates a sense of community where all staff assume ownership for the success of every child.
Creating the structures of collaboration, communication, and support is initiated by stakeholders determined to best serve students in their care. This focus allows for a prioritization of not only the curricular offerings for students, but also the structures necessary to support the various strengths and needs of the student body. The creation of common horizontal and vertical times within this framework remains a priority and structuring the meeting times to attain the desired student outcomes is of equal importance. Last but not least, empowering the school team to identify barriers impeding student success, accompanied by collaborative problem-solving foreshadows the tailored replication in any school.
