Summit Road Elementary opened its doors as a school of choice in 2011, as the sixth elementary school in the Reynoldsburg City School District just east of Columbus, Ohio. Summit was designed to immerse our district's earliest learners, kindergarten through fourth grade in a STEM environment rich in engineering and environmental science. In fact, our school's campus includes a natural wetlands where students have opportunities to engage in real-world environmental investigations. Summit is also considered a Research & Development laboratory for breeding educational innovation. Our library museum gives our students the opportunity to study the evolution of technology through several different lenses. Curiosity, compassion, collaboration, communication, and complex thinking are the fundamental core values that Summit implements through all disciplines. These 21st century skills are infused within the trans-disciplinary problem-based curriculum. The engineering design cycle is incorporated into helping our students engage in authentic real-world problem solving. Summit Road is dedicated to providing students with 21st century content including computer science and blended technology lessons. Students also engage with community partners and present to authentic audiences as part of their 21st century experiences. We are driven at Summit to develop a culture of risk-takers and innovators among both the students and the staff. We believe that Summit's attraction is that our students thrive on the understanding that there is growth in one's education from perseverance through failure, recognizing that problems have more than one solution and most importantly, embracing a sense of community where everyone feels valued and vested.
