Samuel Bissell Elementary School services a diverse population of 622 students from three communities, where the school and community are one.

Samuel Bissell Elementary School staff strives to "Know each child's story", in an effort to educate and meet students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. As a school family, we feel passionate about creating a culture where students feel supported in everything they do. By modeling and practicing the ideas of GRIT (Give it your all, Respond with a positive attitude, Independent thinker, Totally engaged), students and staff strive to give their best and to do their best each day. This support and encouragement has translated into high student achievement and well-rounded students, prepared for future success.

Teachers collaborate on a regular basis to analyze data and student performance, identifying and addressing students' individual strengths and areas of concern. To reinforce, enhance and enrich the curriculum, students participate in various independent projects, activities, assemblies and computer-based programs.

Students take part in the "Community of Caring" initiative, where staff and students interact over lunch, discussing monthly character traits. These ideas are exhibited in the classroom and at recess, as evidenced by the use of the "Buddy Bench."

We believe in educating the whole child with a wrap-around approach that addresses the academic and social needs of all students. We teach and model the importance of making positive choices, celebrating students' accomplishments and sharing in their many educational milestones.
