Inquiry, collaboration, and problem solving in AP Bio.

Our commitment to excellence is traced to our inception. Opened in 1973, the values of the community are reflected in support for an educational experience that honors integrated curriculum, hands on learning, inquiry, and an emphasis on the critical skills necessary to ensure success in the ever evolving global society and workplace. Teachers and learners are granted extensive freedom regarding curriculum, instruction, programs, and extra-curricular offerings. While we embraced the principles of the Common Core, we struggled with the high- stakes nature of standardized assessments. A resilient community of learners, we are forging ahead with renewed emphasis on the values that sparked our inception. We are driven in our desire to provide integrated leaning experiences for our students, partnerships with the broader community for internships, advanced coursework, and a commitment to development of the skills critical for success in the 21st century: problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication. We have begun a renaissance of learning. In Honors Shapers of the World, students examine common threads that link disciplines of literature, art, music, philosophy, history, and science in the development of human civilization. Students explore how human beings have shaped their individual experiences in ways that have a significant impact on society. Engineering, robotics, and coding are integral to our curriculum. We encourage students who traditionally shied away from the more rigorous courses by providing support in classes that were reserved for high-achieving students. Through differentiated learning and flipped classroom strategies, students of all levels are able to succeed.
